Graduation Held at Amelia Academy on May 25

2017, May 26 – Graduation exercises were held at Amelia Academy on Thursday, May 25. Matthew Charles Goodman, an Amelia Academy alumnus, was the guest speaker. The seniors were then presented their diplomas by Mr. Kelly Anderson, President of the Board of Directors of Amelia Educational Foundation, assisted by Mr. Rodney Taylor, Head of School, and Mrs. Jennifer Faeth, senior sponsor.

photoThe Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Award is presented each year to a senior who exemplifies dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. This year the DAR Award was presented to Noah R.

photophotoThe American Legion Patriotism Award is presented to a senior or seniors who exhibit the principles of courage, honor, leadership, patriotism, scholarship, and service. The recipients were Rebecca A. and Grady O.

photoThe Foundation Award is presented by the Amelia Academy Professional Education Association to a senior who has demonstrated outstanding study habits, personal self-reliance, honesty and dependability. The Foundation Award was presented to Rebecca A.

photoThe Herff Jones Award, the highest award presented at graduation to a senior who exhibits the qualities of scholarship, leadership, citizenship, and sportsmanship, was presented to Noah R.

photoThe Linda E. Duncan Memorial Scholarship, given in memory of Linda E. Duncan, the Academy’s beloved guidance counselor who passed away in 2015, was presented to Noah R.

photoThe Virginia Lee Courter Memorial Scholarship was presented to Rachel A.

photoThe Dr. James T. O’Neal Scholarship was presented to Erin A.

photoThe American Legion Post 87 scholarship was presented to Noah R.

photophotophotoThe V.F.W. Post 8759 scholarships were presented to Erin A., Rebecca A., and Noah R.

photophotoThe Johnny F. Black Scholarships were presented to Erin A. and Rebecca A.

photoGrady O. was recognized as the recipient of an Army ROTC scholarship.

photoErin A. received two scholarships from the Amelia County Farm Bureau and the Piedmont Soil and Water Conservation District Lindy Hamlett Educational Scholarship.

photoMatthew Charles Goodman, a member of Amelia Academy’s class of 1997, was the graduation speaker for the Academy’s commencement ceremonies on May 25, 2017.
