Rebecca A. Signs Letter of Intent to Play Basketball at RMC

photo2017, May 15 – Rebecca A. made it official on Thursday, May 11, with her signing of her letter of intent to play basketball at Randolph-Macon College in the fall. The Amelia Academy Lady Patriot standout becomes the seventh female to go on to play collegiate basketball in the last 5 years, but Rebecca will leave as the most decorated player in school history.

Rebecca finished her career at Amelia Academy with 1,633 points, 1,043 rebounds, 340 assists, 321 steals and 168 made three-pointers. She is the first basketball player, male or female, to eclipse the 1,000-point mark and 1,000-rebound mark in the school’s history.

Her career totals of 1,633 points and 1,043 rebounds make her the career leader in both categories. She is second on the all-time career list in three-pointers made, as well.

Rebecca has earned numerous awards during her four years as a Lady Patriot. She is a three-time All-VCC First Team selection and three-time All-State First Team selection, earning those recognitions her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. She was named the VCC Player of the Year this season. She is also a two-time VCC Tournament Most Valuable Player, earning that honor her sophomore and senior seasons. Rebecca was also named All-Academic in the VCC this season.

Coach Frank Shanaberger said, “We have been blessed to have a lot of exceptional players come through our program. But no one has worked harder than Becca did or does to improve, not only individually but for the team’s benefit. She hates taking days off from getting better and wants to be in the gym, not just from November through February, but year round. Once she sets her mind on a goal, she is going to achieve it. Her career achievements here are a testament to her God-given talent, strong work ethic and countless hours in the gym working on her craft.”
