VISAA DIII Final Four Volleyball … Here We Come!

2016, November 10 – The #4 Amelia Academy Lady Patriots volleyball team defeated the #5 Walsingham Academy Trojans in the quarterfinals of the VISAA Division III volleyball tournament … moving the Lady Patriots to the Final Four of States for the first time in Amelia Academy volleyball history.

Winning in three sets, the ladies came out strong and finished up well with scores of 25-13, 25-9 and 25-20. Rebecca racked up 15 kills, 5 aces and 2 blocks. Jessica had 25 assists, 6 aces and 2 kills. Hannah had 3 aces, 2 blocks and 6 kills. Brianna had 5 aces, 2 assists and 5 kills. Madison had 2 aces and 1 kill. Rachel added an assist. The team’s more than 90% serving percentage and more than 7 aces per set showed their serving strength. Highlighting our defensive abilities, the team racked up more than 50 successful digs.

The Lady Patriots will travel to Richard Bland College on Friday, November 11, to play in the semifinal game against #1 Timberlake Christian at 6 p.m. Final Four of States, here we come!

AA Volleyball Faces SA in the VCC Finals on Saturday

2016, November 4 – The #1 Amelia Academy varsity volleyball team will face the #3 Southampton Academy team on Saturday in the Virginia Colonial Conference tournament finals on Saturday, November 5, at 3 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament – Huguenot.

The Lady Patriots defeated the #4 BSH team 3–0 last night in the semifinals. In last night’s game, Hannah had an amazing 17 aces, 2 assists and 5 kills. Jessica had 22 assists and 4 kills. Brianna had 11 aces, 1 assist and 5 kills. Becca had 4 aces, 1 block, 1 assist and 11 kills. Madison had 1 ace, 1 assist and 2 kills. Rachel had 2 kills. Elly added 1 kill and Abbi had 1 assist.

AA Volleyball Advances to VCC Semis

2016, November 2 – The #1 Amelia Academy varsity volleyball team defeated the #8 Banner Christian volleyball team last night in the quarterfinals of the Virginia Colonial Conference tournament. The Lady Patriots move forward to the semifinals to be held on Thursday, November 3, at 5 p.m., against #4 Blessed Sacrament – Huguenot. The semifinals and finals of the tournament will be hosted at BSH this year.

In last night’s game, Jessica had 12 aces, 19 assists and 2 kills. Becca had 9 aces and 9 kills. Brianna had 8 aces, 3 assists and 4 kills. Hannah had 6 aces and 8 kills. Madison had 2 aces and 1 kill. Rachel had 1 assist and 1 kill. Elly added 2 kills and Abbi added 1.

Volleyball Regular Season Ends

2016, October 28 – The Amelia Academy Lady Patriots volleyball regular season has come to an end. The varsity team was undefeated in the Virginia Colonial Conference clenching them first place for the second year in a row! Their overall record for the regular season is an incredible 26-2. Next week, the Lady Patriots will host the eighth-place team on Tuesday, November 1, in the quarterfinals of the Virginia Colonial Conference tournament.

On Thursday night, October 27, we honored our senior varsity volleyball players and our senior cross country runner: Rebecca A., Rachel A., Abbi S. and Grady O.

 

The JV and Middle School teams finished out their seasons this week but we look forward to an exciting season next year.

Varsity (26-2; 14-0 in the VCC)

The Varsity Lady Patriots ended the regular season with a 26-2 record and are ranked fourth in the state poll going into the conference tournament week.

Middle School (5-7)

The Little Lady Patriots have come a long way this season for such a small and young team. With six seventh-graders and one sixth grader, this team finished out the season with a 5-7 record.

Volleyball Update

2016, October 21 – The Amelia Academy Lady Patriots are winding down with only a week left in the regular season. Each team played two games this week.

The middle school team will finish out their season by playing one more game on Tuesday, October 25, away against Southampton Academy. The JV and Varsity teams travel to Southampton on Tuesday, and face Tidewater Academy on Thursday, October 27, at home.

A special celebration of our senior volleyball players will be held just before the varsity match on Thursday. Rebecca A., Rachel A. and Abbi S. will be honored.

Varsity Volleyball Continues Undefeated Season

2016, October 7 – Wow, 19-0 – The Amelia Academy Lady Patriots varsity volleyball team continues to be undefeated going into the second half of the season. After beating Fuqua School on Monday, the ladies won against both Tidewater (on Tuesday) and Blessed Sacrament – Huguenot (on Thursday) in three sets.

Currently tied at second in the VISAA Division III state poll, the Lady Patriots face the #4-team StoneBridge on Saturday at 12:30 pm in what is likely to be the most challenging game of the season as of yet.

2016, October 4 – In exciting games hosted by Fuqua, the Amelia Academy Lady Patriots junior varsity and varsity teams swept the Fuqua Falcons.

The varsity team racked up the stats in the 5-set win over the Falcons and improved their undefeated record to 17-0. Rebecca A. had 8 aces, 2 blocks, 2 assists and 13 kills. Jessica M. had 28 assists and 3 kills. Brianna G. had 5 aces, 2 assists and 10 kills. Hannah F. had 1 assist and 12 kills. Elly A. had 2 aces, 1 block and 1 assist. Rachel A. added 1 block, 1 assist and 1 kill. Madison Ba. added 2 blocks.

The JV team won 2-1. Sarah P. had 2 assists and 4 kills. Madison Bo. had 1 ace and 5 assists. Hannah K. had 2 aces, 1 assist and 2 kills. Skylar W. had 2 aces and 2 kills. Amari H. had 2 aces and 1 kill. Kelly F. added an ace and Savannah D. added an assist.

Varsity Volleyball Defeats Southampton Academy

2016, September 30 – The Amelia Academy varsity volleyball team defeated Southampton Academy in three sets last night bringing their record to 16-0 for the season. Until last night, Southampton Academy was undefeated in the Virginia Colonial Conference so the win put the Lady Patriots into 1st place in the VCC.

Rebecca A. had 5 aces, 2 assists, 1 block and 11 kills. Brianna G. had 4 aces, 4 assists and 6 kills. Jessica M. had 3 aces and 21 assists. Hannah F. had 3 aces and 8 kills. Rachel A. had 2 aces and 2 kills. Elly A. had 1 ace and 1 kill.

The middle school and junior varsity Lady Patriots lost last night to the tough Lady Raiders in two sets each. For the middle school team, Madison Bo. racked up 8 aces. Jade N. had 2 aces. Sarah R. had an ace and a kill. Emma A. had an ace. Savannah D. had 1 assist and Faith A. added a kill. For the junior varsity team, Amari H. had 1 ace, 1 assist and 1 kill. Sarah P. had 2 kills. Kelly F. had 1 ace and 1 kill. Skylar W. had 1 ace and 1 assist. Shelby M. had 1 assist.

The Lady Patriots have a busy week next week traveling to Fuqua School on Monday, Tidewater Academy on Tuesday, and Blessed Sacrament – Huguenot on Thursday. They host StoneBridge on Saturday.

2016, September 28 – The Amelia Academy varsity volleyball team maintained their undefeated record when they traveled to Richmond Christian School on Tuesday. Beating RCS in three sets, the Lady Patriots increased their record to 15-0.

Hannah F. had 4 aces and 10 kills. Jessica M. has 2 aces, 21 assists and 2 kills. Rebecca A. had 7 aces, 1 assist and 9 kills. Brianna G. had 3 aces, 2 assists and 3 kills. Rachel A. had 4 aces and 1 kill. Abbi S. added 2 kills.

The Little Lady Patriots lost a tough 2-0 match to RCS on Tuesday. Madison Bo. had 4 aces and 4 kills. Savannah D. had 3 assists and 2 kills. Jade N. had 2 aces and 3 kills. Sarah R. had 1 ace and 2 assists. Faith A. had 1 assist and 1 kill. Emma A. added 1 ace and Alana P. added an assist.

All three of the Lady Patriots volleyball teams will host Southampton Academy on Thursday.

AA Lady Patriots Win Gator Classic

2016, September 19 – The Amelia Academy varsity volleyball team continued their undefeated season by winning the Gator Classic tournament championship hosted by St. Gertrude High School in Richmond on Saturday, September 17.

After the morning of pool play between the four teams in the tournament – St. Gertrude High School (VISAA D1), Saint John Paul the Great (VISAA D1), Blessed Sacrament – Huguenot (VISAA D3) and Amelia Academy (VISAA D3) – the Lady Patriots went into the single-elimination tournament seeded first. They beat fourth-seeded BSH in two sets with scores of 25-11 and 25-16.

Next up was second-seeded SGHS which proved to be a challenging game after a tiring day with only eight players on the AA team. The Lady Patriots won the first set with a score of 25-18 but fell in the second 21-25. After catching their second wind, they battled back in the third set winning 15-12.

Jessica M. racked up 75 assists, 10 aces and 2 kills in the 11 sets played on Saturday. Rebecca A. had 16 aces, 2 blocks, 1 assist and 43 kills. Brianna G. had 10 aces, 1 block, 4 assists and 21 kills. Hannah F. had 8 aces, 2 blocks, 1 assist and 24 kills. Rachel A. had 6 aces, 1 assist and 6 kills. Elly A. had 2 aces, 1 assists and 2 kills.

The Lady Patriots go into a three-game week this week with a record of 11-0. They will host Fuqua School on Monday and Banner Christian on Tuesday, before traveling to Kenston Forest on Thursday.

2016, September 16 – The Amelia Academy Lady Patriots varsity volleyball team defeated Brunswick Academy last night in three sets improving their record to 6-0. The JV and middle school teams also competed well but did not pull out a win.

Rebecca A. served up 9 aces, had 2 blocks and 9 kills. Hannah F. had 3 aces, 1 assist and 9 kills. Jessica M. had 4 aces and 21 assists. Brianna G. had 4 aces, 2 assists and 3 kills. Rachel A. had 1 ace, 1 assist and 4 kills. Elly A. had 3 aces and 1 kill.

The varsity team will complete in the Gator Classic Tournament at St. Gertrude’s in Richmond on Saturday.

Ending the second set with an exciting 28-30 score, the middle school team almost pulled out a win. Madison Bo. served 8 aces, had 1 assist and 3 kills. Sarah R. had 4 assists and 1 kill. Jade N. had 5 kills. Savannah D. had 2 assists. Emma A. had 3 kills and Alana P. added 1 kill.

 

 

Volleyball Hosts Three-game Sweep v BSH

2016, September 14 – The Amelia Academy Lady Patriots volleyball teams swept Blessed Sacrament – Huguenot on Tuesday creating a 1-0 VCC record for the middle school, junior varsity and varsity teams. Yesterday’s game improved varsity’s record to 5-0 overall.

In the 3-0 varsity match, Rebecca A. served 13 aces, had 2 assists and 9 kills. Brianna G. served 12 aces, had 3 assists and 5 kills. Jessica M. served 2 aces, assisted 18 kills and had 3 kills. Hannah F. had 2 aces, 1 assist and 7 kills. Rachel A. had 3 aces, 2 assists and 2 kills. Elly A. added 1 kill.

The JV Lady Patriots won in two sets with scores of 25-8 and 25-4 in their debut on the court for the 2016 season. Sophomore Hannah K. served 12 aces and had 3 kills. Freshman Sarah P. had 6 aces and 1 kill. Freshman Skylar W. served 2 aces and assisted 3 kills. Sophomore Amari H. had 1 ace and 2 kills. Middle-school player Madison Bo. had 3 aces and 1 assist. Sophomore Kelly F. and Eighth-grader Shelby M. both added an ace. Sophomore Catarina S. is out with an ankle injury. Freshman Lexi E. played in her first athletic event as a Lady Patriots last night and middle-school player Savannah D. assisted the JV team in one set.

The 2-0 middle school game ended in scores of 25-12 and 25-9. The Lady Patriots served up 25 aces in two sets. Seventh-graders Madison Bo. led with 10 aces, followed by Savanah D. with 6, Jade N. with 5, Faith A. with 4 and both Emma A. and Sarah R. had 1. Madison also had 1 kill. Sixth-grader Alana P. also played.

The Amelia Academy tiny teams came out with big wins. Next on the schedule is a trip to Brunswick Academy on Thursday, September 15.

Lady Patriots to Begin VCC Season

2016, September 13 – The Amelia Academy Lady Patriots volleyball teams will play the first conference games of the season at home today against Blessed Sacrament – Huguenot. The middle school game begins at 4 p.m. with junior varsity and varsity following at 5 and 6 p.m.

Last night the varsity won in three sets against Temple Christian at home improving their record to 4-0. Brianna G. had 6 aces, 1 block and 9 kills. Hannah F. had 5 aces and 7 kills. Jessica M. assisted 22 kills, had 2 aces and 1 kill. Rachel A. had 7 aces and 2 kills. Rebecca A. had 6 aces, 1 block and 4 kills. Elly A. had 1 ace and 1 assist. Madison B. sprained her ankle in practice this week but should be back in play soon. And, in her first game as a Lady Patriot, Abbi S. added 1 kill.

After tonight’s VCC home game, the ladies will travel to Brunswick Academy on Thursday for a three-game night.

 

 

Lady Patriots Improve Record to 3-0

2016, September 8 – The Amelia Academy Lady Patriots varsity volleyball team beat Williamsburg Christian in three sets last night at home, improving their record to 3-0.

Rebecca A. had 17 aces, 1 assist and 3 kills. Jessica M. had 5 aces, 13 assists and 1 kill. Brianna G. had 2 aces, 2 assists and 5 kills. Hannah F. had 1 ace and 5 kills. Madison B. had 6 aces, 1 assist and 1 kill. Rachel A. had 3 aces and 1 kill. Elly A. had 1 ace and 2 kills.

Next on the schedule is Temple Christian on Monday, September 12, 5 p.m. at home.

Thrilling Five-set Win for the Lady Patriots

2016, September 2 – The first home game of the 2016 Amelia Academy varsity volleyball season was very exciting. The Lady Patriots pulled out a thrilling five-set win against the Virginia Episcopal School Fighting Bishops on Thursday, September 1. After losing the first two sets 21-25 and 29-31, these ladies fought back winning the final three sets 25-23, 25-12 and 15-12.

Rebecca A. led the team with 17 kills. She added seven aces and one assist.  Brianna G. had 13 kills, six aces and two assists. Jessica M. assisted 35 kills. She had two aces and two kills. Hannah F. had nine kills, two aces, one block and two assists. Rachel A. had 2 kills and one assist. Madison B. added four aces, one kill and a block, and Elly A. added two aces.

The Lady Patriots face the Eagles of Williamsburg Christian at home on Wednesday, September 7, at 6 p.m. Come on out and cheer us on!

 

 

Varsity Volleyball Wins Season Opener

2016, August 30 – The Amelia Academy Lady Patriots varsity volleyball team defeated Amelia County High School 3-1 in their season opener on Monday, August 29.

Senior Rebecca A. racked up 11 aces, 2 blocks and 14 kills. Junior Hannah F. added 9 aces, 5 assists, 1 block and 5 kills. Junior setter Jessica M. assisted 16 kills, had 5 aces and 3 kills. Brianna G. had 2 aces, 3 assists, 1 block and 5 kills. Senior Rachel A. had 5 aces, 2 assists and 3 kills. Freshman Madison B. added a block and sophomore Elly A. added an ace.

The Lady Patriots face VES for their first home game of the season on Thursday at 5 p.m.

 

 

AA Lady Patriots Win Division Tournament Championship at Liberty Volleyball Camp

2016, July 18 – The Amelia Academy Lady Patriots varsity volleyball team traveled to Liberty University last Saturday for a week-long team camp. On Thursday, July 14, the Lady Patriots went into the camp tournament seeded fourth out of 14 teams in their division, with a 15–5 record for the week. The three first place teams were tied at 16–4.
