AA Lady Pats Claim GCS Tourney Championship

2016, December 5 – The Lady Patriots claimed the Grace Christian School Tip-Off Tournament championship last weekend with wins over Nelson County and Highland County.

On Friday, Amelia Academy used a 14-0 run to start the game and went on to defeat Nelson County 53-42. Becca A. led the Lady Patriots with 25 points (including 3 threes), 9 rebounds and 8 steals. Monica E. had 7 points and 9 rebounds, Hannah F. had 6 points and 3 rebounds, and Jessica M. had 3 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steals, 5 assists and 3 blocks. Abbi S. added 5 points and 7 rebounds. Rachel A. had 4 points and 3 rebounds and Madison B. had 3 points and 3 rebounds.

On Saturday, the Lady Patriots defeated Highland County 69-39 in the championship. Becca recorded a triple-double in the first half and finished with 23 points, 13 rebounds, 13 steals and 4 assists. Hannah had 13 points and 6 rebounds. Rachel added 12 points, 3 steals and 2 rebounds. Monica had 6 points and 12 rebounds, Elizabeth J. had 4 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals, and Jessica had 3 points, 6 assists, 6 steals and 5 rebounds. Abbi had 3 points and 12 rebounds, Brianna G. had 3 points and 7 rebounds and Madison had 2 points and 6 rebounds to round out the scoring.

Becca was named the tournament MVP and Jessica was named to the all-tournament team.

On Wednesday, Amelia Academy defeated Virginia Episcopal School 69-35. They took an early 22-4 lead and never looked back. Becca led the way with 28 points, 8 rebounds, 6 steals and 4 assists. Hannah had 11 points and Abbi and Monica each scored 8 points. Jessica had 7 points, 8 assists and 5 steals. Brianna had 3 points and Madison and Rachel each had 2 points to round out the scoring.

The Lady Patriots are now 5-0 on the season and are scheduled to travel to Temple Christian on Tuesday before heading to Millwood School on Friday.
