AA Lady Patriots Basketball Tips Off Season

2016, November 21 – The Amelia Academy Lady Patriot Basketball Team tipped off its 2016-17 season with an impressive 65-33 victory over Veritas School on Friday night. The Lady Patriots never trailed and held a commanding 42-7 lead at halftime. The offense cooled off after the break but they still cruised to the eventual 65-33 win.

photoPacing Amelia Academy was senior Rebecca A. who led the team in most statistical categories with 35 points, 15 rebounds, 7 steals and 4 assists. She hit the 1,000-point mark in her career with a foul shot in the fourth quarter. She was 10-11 from the foul line on the night. Freshman Madison B. was also in double figures with 12 points, including 2 threes. She also had 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Junior Jessica M. had 9 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals and a block. Senior Rachel A. had 5 points and 3 assists and junior Hannah F. had 4 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 assists and 2 blocks. Senior Abbi S. had 10 rebounds and 2 assists. 

The Lady Patriots are scheduled to play Millwood School on Monday night before the Thanksgiving break. Following the break, they will host Virginia Episcopal School on Wednesday, November 30 at 5 pm. The Lady Patriots will travel to Grace Christian School in Staunton for a tip-off tournament on Friday, December 2 and Saturday, December 3.

This year's team consists of returning players Rebecca A., Rachel A., Jessica M., Hannah F., Monica E., Brianna G. and Madison B. Newcomers include Abbi S., Skylar W. and Elizabeth J. The team is coached by Frank Shanaberger and Malinda Shanaberger.
