AA Lady Patriots Win Gator Classic

2016, September 19 – The Amelia Academy varsity volleyball team continued their undefeated season by winning the Gator Classic tournament championship hosted by St. Gertrude High School in Richmond on Saturday, September 17.

After the morning of pool play between the four teams in the tournament – St. Gertrude High School (VISAA D1), Saint John Paul the Great (VISAA D1), Blessed Sacrament – Huguenot (VISAA D3) and Amelia Academy (VISAA D3) – the Lady Patriots went into the single-elimination tournament seeded first. They beat fourth-seeded BSH in two sets with scores of 25-11 and 25-16.

Next up was second-seeded SGHS which proved to be a challenging game after a tiring day with only eight players on the AA team. The Lady Patriots won the first set with a score of 25-18 but fell in the second 21-25. After catching their second wind, they battled back in the third set winning 15-12.

Jessica M. racked up 75 assists, 10 aces and 2 kills in the 11 sets played on Saturday. Rebecca A. had 16 aces, 2 blocks, 1 assist and 43 kills. Brianna G. had 10 aces, 1 block, 4 assists and 21 kills. Hannah F. had 8 aces, 2 blocks, 1 assist and 24 kills. Rachel A. had 6 aces, 1 assist and 6 kills. Elly A. had 2 aces, 1 assists and 2 kills.

The Lady Patriots go into a three-game week this week with a record of 11-0. They will host Fuqua School on Monday and Banner Christian on Tuesday, before traveling to Kenston Forest on Thursday.
